Production Notes
Morning light is back with a new twist. This Pinot Noir is a gorgeous blend of Sonoma Coast vineyards that lend those awesome marine influences and wild character we love in our Pinot Noirs. Paired with the intense mountain fruit from the volcanic soils of Sullivan vineyard, you truly get the best of both worlds. A beautifully balanced Pinot Noir with lush fruit and fine tannins. The 2017 growing season was full of extremes starting with one of the wettest springs in a long time. This provided saturated soil profiles to start the season and plenty of water to get vigor in the vines. Relatively mild conditions during berry set allowed for closer to normal crops in the season. Heat in late August kicked harvest into full swing particularly with the early varieties. Hand harvested and hand sorted. Native yeast fermentation in small open top vats over the course of 24 days with gentle manual punch-downs 1-2 times per day. Pressed at dryness. Aging for 15 months in French oak, 30% new, 50% second use, and 20% neutral – Cavin, Francois Freres and Rousseau barrels.
Winemaker Notes
A sweet nose with aromas of hibiscus, strawberry and balsamic lead to a soft, full mouthfeel. Lush flavors of strawberries dusted with chocolate and a hint of cream lead to a mocha finish with silky tannins. This wine has plenty of personality and would love to be served with a slight chill on a warm summer afternoon.
