Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
Fort Ross’ neighboring vineyard properties include renowned ones such as Hirsch, Flowers, Marcassin, and Blue Slide Ridge. 2016 Morning Light Pinot Noir is almost completely comprised of this amazing vineyard with a small portion of Tina Marie and Thorn Ridge vineyards added to the final blend.
Production Notes
Hand harvested and hand sorted. Native yeast fermentation in small open top vats over the course of 24 days with gentle, manual punch-downs 1-2 times per day. Pressed at dryness. Aging for 16 months in French oak, 20% new, 60% second use, and 20% neutral - Cavin, Rousseau, and Chassin barrels.
Winemaker Notes
Morning Light is back with a new twist. in 2016, Banshee continued to work with fruit from one of the most beautiful vineyards we had ever been to on the Sonoma Coast - Fort Ross vineyard. Fort Ross sits up the coast from Jenner, where the Russian River dumps into the chilly pacific. The vineyards here sit on the ridge tops overlooking the ocean, generally just above the fog. on a clear day from this perched elevation you can see down the dramatic coastline to the Farallon Islands. Seductive aromas of raspberry reduction, redwood bark, and sea air. In the mouth, it is lithe and possesses flavors of black and Rainier cherry, crushed flowers, and a mellow frame of toasted vanilla. These flavors carry through excellently on the long, tangy finish.
